What Is Democracy Now!?

Democracy Now! is a national, listener-sponsored public radio and TV show, pioneering the largest community media collaboration in the country. The program was launched six years ago as the only daily election show in public broadcasting. Because of its success, Democracy Now! broadened its focus and became a national news show committed to bringing the broadest array of voices--from grassroots activists to government officials--to the airwaves.

Hosted by award-winning journalist Amy Goodman, Democracy Now! meets a growing demand for trustworthy, independent news and information in this time of war. The program provides the audience with access to people and perspectives rarely heard in the U.S. corporate-sponsored media, including independent and international journalists, ordinary people from around the world who are directly affected by U.S. foreign policy, grassroots leaders and peace activists, artists, academics and independent analysts. In addition, Democracy Now! hosts real debates - debates between people who substantially disagree, such as between the White House or the Pentagon spokespeople on the one hand, and grassroots activists on the other.

Democracy Now! is funded entirely through contributions from listeners, viewers, and foundations. It does not accept advertisers, donations from corporations, or donations from governments. This allows it to maintain its independence.
